Tall Grass Kitchens Garden Lot is a 10,400 SF project complimentary to the neighboring Watershed Row. The Urban Garden renovates an abandoned community garden to a garden grown for the community. The site contains a greenhouse, market garden, and orchard meant to cultivate produce for the food hub at Watershed Row. The garden fulfills the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Urban Agriculture imperative through scale jumping. In addition to the food producing plants along 6th street, the new gabion wall is integrated with bench seating to improve the street’s walkability.
In addition to minimizing transportation of food resources, the garden seeks to minimize other forms of waste. Green waste from the eatery will be composted at the garden. Excess greywater and rainwater generated at the Watershed Row site will be used to grow new crops.
