The Magna Kennecott Senior Center, located at the historical Webster Elementary school site, reflects the community’s rich and colorful past. This LEED-Gold certified building is designed to promote active aging by intentionally welcoming baby boomers without alienating the older senior population. The Center's main entrance, café, and recreation spaces actively engage Magna’s historic Main Street. The design provides a walkable site and vernacular building form that references nearby historic buildings. The building's materiality purposely ties into the history of the area through elements such as the locally sourced brick, which complements the historic Main Street facades. The interior incorporates historic photography and signage as well as a site-specific piece of public art anchoring the main lobby. Sustainable design features include high-performing interior materials with recycled content, abundant natural light minimizing the need for electrical lighting, and a geothermal energy system that heats and cools the building. The project site includes a walking track, outdoor garden, and dining areas.
