Daybreak Library · Daybreak, Utah

This 26,000 SF library in Daybreak, Utah, functions as the first public building in the community’s new Town Center. Completed for Salt Lake County Library in 2022, the project supports a walkable, transit-connected environment near Oquirrh Lake and the regional light rail system.

The client sought a branch that could act as both a civic anchor and a flexible gathering space for diverse user groups. Goals included supporting community learning, creating access to outdoor amenities, and meeting ambitious sustainability benchmarks.

Design constraints included integrating multiple uses—maker spaces, children’s play zones, conference rooms—within a compact footprint, while achieving ILFI Zero Energy and LEED Gold v4 certifications. Site orientation, climate responsiveness, and daylighting strategies were central design considerations.

The completed facility includes an interior courtyard, a rooftop garden and patio, and a streetside plaza. Passive systems and a 95kW rooftop solar array support net-zero energy performance. Public amenities such as a bike repair station and outdoor amphitheater further extend the building’s civic value.
