C40 & AIA Collaboration

Client: C40
Urban Designer: Megan Recher
Completion: 2023
As a member of the AIA National Resilience and Adaptation Advisory Group, Megan Recher contributed to an international strategy paper in collaboration with C40 Cities. Released in December 2023, Achieving a Decarbonised and Climate-Resilient Built Environment outlines the urgent need to address carbon emissions and climate risks together, rather than in parallel.
The paper was developed with input from working groups representing cities including Austin, Bogotá, Ekurhuleni, Medellín, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, and Tel Aviv. It emphasizes the importance of integrated, place-based solutions that are both resilient and sustainable.
Megan worked alongside a team of architects, planners, and policymakers from around the world to explore how climate mitigation and adaptation strategies can—and must—coexist within the built environment. The work reflects Place Collaborative’s commitment to systems thinking and climate-forward design.
