Q&A with Megan

Where are you from?

Niceville, Florida

How did you get here to Utah?

Haha long story or short? Short Version: I moved to Utah for a job at the beginning of 2020 and fell in love with Utah.

What are your hobbies?

Sharing stories and cooking with my friends and family, Paddling, Swimming, and or anything outside with my dog.

Was there a person or experience that made an impact on your life?

Traveling – it leaves you humble and speechless, then it turns you into a storyteller.

Every experience and every person you interact with makes an impact on your life. I have been lucky to have many great mentors in my life and I learn so much from my friends, co-workers, and family. My mom above all else who has never stopped supporting me and encouraging me to fulfill my dreams of being an architect. Janice Barnes, who never stopped challenging me and everyone to do the best that they can and improve resilience at global scale. Andres Duany & Liz Plater-Zyberk for teaching me the fundamentals of urban design & planning and how deep sustainability and resilience is integrated within design, Lourdes Reynafarje for teaching me how to be an architect and specifically the importance on community engagement and improving the social equity of all.

Tell us something about your job that you are very passionate about.

Making the world a more resilient and equitable place while also bringing someone’s dreams to reality.

Tell us something about your life you are very passionate about.

Helping improve our environment and the way we live to make the positive impacts. And animals because they are the best!

What path would you have taken if you didn't choose architecture?

I’ve always loved mapping and studying the different ways people live including floating villages and abandoned cities like Angkor Wat and Petra. So something that allows me to live and travel around the world while documenting and drawing.

If we told you that you get to take the day off work tomorrow, how would you spend it?

Depends on the weather, start with coffee outside early in the morning on the porch, then spend the day outside with friends and dogs (ideally on the water or in the mountains), then making dinner together.

When you first meet someone, what is something you hope they understand about you?

I might love your pets more than you and I am brutally honest.

What’s your favorite thing to eat?

All the foods and drinks! I love trying something new so whats the best local restaurant and brewery!?

What’s your favorite season?

Spring/Summer when its warm, the sun is shining, and everything is bright green!

What is your favorite outdoor thing to do where you are from?

I love all things water related! I am usually on a paddleboard or kayak with my dog, Storm, or out somewhere hiking with her!

Did you play any sports/do you play any sports?

I used to swim and play soccer in school and still love them both, although I swim more than play soccer these days.
